MIYO
]]>Plant lovers take final overwintering measures in late autumn, place their green roommates under cover, wrap pots and take important precautions to avoid frost damage. In order to get MIYO safely through the cold season, all mobile devices, i.e. sensors and valves, must be dismantled when the outside temperature reaches 4°C and stored indoors for the winter. Since they no longer receive solar charging, winter mode must be activated in the app in the settings of each irrigation area. This puts the devices into an energy-saving mode that lasts for many months without recharging. It is important that the devices go into hibernation well charged. Charging can occur before or after winter mode is activated. As soon as the sensor measures a temperature of 4°C, the MIYO app automatically reports a warning that the time has come for winterization. At a temperature of 0°C, an additional error message indicates that sensors and valves really need to be removed.
How to prepare for winter mode?
Give the devices plenty of sun. When temperatures are above zero, MIYOs can also be charged in winter mode if this was previously not possible due to weather conditions, for example.
How do I deactivate MIYOS sensors before winter?
First, the winter mode must be activated in the app for each irrigation area. Then carefully pull the floor sensor out of the floor. During the winter months, the soil sensor should be stored in the dry and at plus degrees.
How do I deactivate MIYOS valve before winter?
The first step is to turn off the water supply to the garden and dismantle the valve. Then activate winter mode in the app for each watering area. But be careful, this will open the valve! The device should then be stored dry and at temperatures above zero.
How to deactivate MIYOS Cube before winter?
When MIYOS valves and sensors are powered for the winter and all circuits are in winter mode, the cube can simply be disconnected from its power supply. All settings remain stored locally even without power supply.
After MIYO has supplied the beloved plants with water as needed and sustainably throughout the summer, the rest phase in winter is well-deserved. The cold season is also ideal for thinking about individual garden design and developing new ideas for the coming season. Of course, we at MIYO are still available in any weather for all questions about fully automatic irrigation and work on ever better solutions for a smart garden.

]]>Lots of sun encourages the lawn to grow big. It grows particularly vigorously at the beginning of the hot season. In summer, lawn care should primarily focus on protecting the lawn from drying out or extreme heat. In any case, regular trimming will increase the density and resilience of the green space, but be careful: Blades of grass that are cut too short cause the soil to dry out more quickly and unloved weeds can spread.
Mowing properly
Ideally, you should unpack the lawn mower once a week and drive it over the entire green area. If the grass has grown a little higher during your vacation, please mow gradually to normal height. At very high temperatures, the stalks can be a little longer, as this reduces evaporation. This means that the grass has a better water balance and burns cannot occur in the first place. If regular, manual lawn mowing is too laborious, we recommend the following tip: Modern robotic lawnmowers help mow lawns effortlessly and regardless of weather conditions or terrain.
Water correctly
Many home gardeners make the mistake of watering too often but not enough at the same time. Daily watering can even damage the lawn. But let's go step by step:
And this is where MIYO comes into play. As is well known, the smart irrigation system optimizes the water consumption of your plants fully automatically and taking into account presets, needs and weather forecast. In addition, the freely placeable, solar-powered sensors continuously measure local parameters such as soil moisture, brightness and ground-level temperature in the garden. This environmental data is then evaluated by a central control unit, which independently decides when and how much watering needs to be done, depending on the weather forecast and personal settings. Valves connected to the faucet and powered by solar power immediately receive these commands and ultimately pave the way for needs-based and environmentally friendly irrigation. The amount of water is also controlled! Once enough water has seeped deep enough, the irrigation switches off automatically. It's that easy to optimally care for your lawn fully automatically and MIYO helps to avoid errors.
Fertilize properly
In addition to mowing and watering, efficient lawn care in summer also includes proper fertilization. In the hot season, the nutrients in spring fertilizer are usually used up. The lawn should now be supported with a long-term lawn fertilizer specially formulated for the summer. This also makes it more durable and the fertilizer helps it regulate its water balance. If the soil is solid and acidic, you should also spread lime and humic acids.
Furthermore, quality is crucial! Unfortunately, cheap fertilizers only stimulate growth in the short term and provide the grass with too few nutrients in the long term. By the way, the ideal time to fertilize is a cloudy morning that still means rain is expected. If this is not possible, the evening should be chosen as the time and then watered thoroughly.
We hope you enjoy implementing our tips and suggestions!

The corona crisis is a challenge for many companies on various levels. A customer enthusiastic about MIYO saw the potential in the company and in the product and bought the majority shares this summer. With bundled know-how, full operation will be resumed immediately.
MIYO fans and loyal existing customers now have reason to celebrate, because their needs-oriented, sustainable and visually appealing irrigation solution for the garden or terrace will also be available in the future with all the usual features. In 2020, the MIYO team will once again focus on end customers. “The smart home market, which is making people's everyday lives increasingly easier, more convenient and more sustainable, is growing rapidly. The southern European market will also ensure increasing sales for us in the next few years, which we want to address specifically from now on. We have learned a lot from the past and are now moving full speed ahead into the future,” said the management.
Especially in times when constantly adapted measures to contain the spread of the corona virus hardly allow any big leaps, people are striving to make themselves really nice at home - we all have the images of the stormed hardware stores in our minds. MIYO waters flowers, plants and the lawn as needed and automatically and gives our green roommates water when they really need it. Water consumption is optimized depending on the default settings, demand and the weather forecast. “Think green” also applies to the power supply. MIYO creates no battery waste and uses the sun's precious energy. For the entire MIYO
community, the currently very positive developments are also a sign that sustainable and future-oriented technology remains stable, even in times of crisis. Let's rejoice together!
New Smart Garden function
As is well known, the intelligent smart garden innovation MIYO supplies green areas fully automatically, environmentally friendly and according to requirements. In order to keep full control over the soil moisture in raised beds and potted plants, there is now a new function that only allows sensors to be connected to the MIYO app and the corresponding data to be determined. This way you always know exactly when the soil is dry. In this way, manual watering is possible without unnecessarily consuming the valuable resource of water.
From now on, MIYO offers four combination options and functions. The cube, the “brain” of the MIYO garden irrigation system, always acts as the central interfaces:
The MIYO plugin for LOXONE
In our home and garden, an average of 150 home automation and consumer electronics devices are controlled today. None of the devices know exactly what that meanswhat someone else is doing or what the resident wants.
With Loxone Smart Home On the other hand, everything is controlled by a central core, a small mini server. The system behind Loxone handles most of the tasks related to safety, comfort and energy efficiency by itself and has done so millions of times for many years. A MIYO fan and technology-savvy customer has programmed a plugin for easy operation and integration with Loxone and made it available as open source for all MIYO owners. Also one detailed instructions for installation is available online here. The plugin, programmed and documented in detail by our customer, sets up a web socket interface to the MIYO cube and sends the messages received via it to the Loxone mini server in a format that is easy for Loxone to process. These messages for the MIYO irrigation system that arrive at the miniserver via UDP (minimal, connectionless network protocols) are received by the plugin and in turn forwarded to the cube via web socket.
This means that not only can the data from the MIYO system (such as temperature or soil moisture, or the status of the valves) be visualized or further processed in Loxone, but the irrigation valves can also be controlled using your own logic within Loxone.
MIYO conquers Google Home
It is above all our express wishesr customers are now able to switch MIYO or irrigation on and off via the Google Home voice control assistant. Once activated by saying the words “Ok Google” or “Hey Google”, you can use your voice to transmit a corresponding command to the assistant. We want to make life a little easier for our customers and make their smart home even more efficient.

Which system should you use and in what order is it best to do it? We will happily and competently answer all of these questions for you according to the motto – you have the garden, we have the plan for your irrigation.
MIYO professional plan for your oasis of well-being
Together with our partner, a licensed company in the planning and installation of irrigation systems that has been successful for decades, we offer you the planning of a professional irrigation system for your terrace, your home garden or a public area.
All we need from you are a few details about your future feel-good paradise. Of course, our professionals need to know which plants you want to water and which directions your open spaces face. It is also important for planning to know where the water connection is and whether a pipe system has already been installed.
It is best if you show us these details on a drawing or sketch of your garden that is as precise as possible, in which you also state the exact dimensions. Ideally, you also have photos of the areas to be watered that you can provide to us.
In order to create a correct plan, specifying the performance of your water pipe is particularly important. To find out, fill a bucket with the tap fully turned on and stop the time until there are 10 liters in the bucket. It's that easy - you already know.
As soon as the free planning has been completed on our part, you decide in the next step whether you BRAIN ProfiPlan DIY - the do-it-yourself package to build yourself - or you'd rather have it with you MIYO ProfiPlan Montage, would like to have installation carried out by our professionals.

]]>After taking an initial inventory in the garden or on the balcony, you have probably already gained a first impression. The best thing to do is to start by removing dead branches and loosening the protective layer of mulch. Weeding will now be very easy and the mulch can be incorporated nicely. However, be careful with any flower bulbs that may have been planted in the fall. The soil then needs some rest so that the important microorganisms can spread again and increase fertility before you plant anything again.
You should also check the beds for frozen plants and lightly press the soil around them. It also doesn't hurt to remove the first weeds and slugs as early as possible. Here are a few special tips for the different requirements of your garden.
Perennial and hedge bed: After you have removed the withered remains, you can also weed, mulch and trim the perennials generously, as they continue to grow and become larger over the course of the year. You can also use pruning shears to give the surrounding plants more light and space. Now would also be a good time to replant.
Raised bed: Your raised bed is definitely crying out for work after the chilly months. If the soil has settled due to decomposition, simply fill in the bed with fresh soil. Then loosen the soil with the cultivator and remove old leaves and unwanted weeds. You can then fertilize the raised bed, if this has not already happened in autumn. If the bed is to become a cold frame, then a cover with black foil or a lid will warm up the soil. In this way you ensure that the soil is well preheated for sowing, because the cover stores heat from the sun. If the weather is frost-free, you can sow vegetables such as broccoli, leeks, onions, peas or spinach in spring without hesitation.
Potted plants: Oleander, fuchsia, magnolia and the like have certainly spent the winter indoors and are already looking forward to the garden or balcony. But before that, you can do them some good by rejuvenating the old shoots, checking them for pests and repotting them in fresh soil. It is important that at the beginning of the fresh air season you only put your potted plants outside during the day and do not expose them to the full sun and cool wind. Until the Ice Saints from May 11th to 15th, they should only get a breath of fresh air during the day and be brought back inside to make them safe from frost for the night. This means they can show their full splendor in the summer.
Race: Don't let the bare appearance in spring scare you and fungal diseases don't matter to you. Fortunately, since the grasses have their growing point underground, they can sprout again healthily. To make your lawn green and lush, it's best to do nothing and let nature take its course. Of course, you shouldn't neglect proper watering.
MIYO expert tip: A first sowing now ensures beautiful flowers and delicious raw food in the home garden. You can sprinkle vegetable seeds now into the dug and prepared soil. However, pay close attention to the minimum distance between the seeds stated on the packaging and use the best quality potting soil.
MIYO's spring awakening
Now it is time to end the winter mode for the valve and soil sensor. If you followed the steps in the operating instructions before winter and sent your smart irrigation system into winter mode, then MIYO's components should be stored dry and safe at plus degrees.
Now we want you Tips for activating MIYO give:
All your settings were always saved locally in the cube during the winter months, even without power supply. MIYO will now work again as you set it up last year.
Now you can enjoy spring to the fullest and watch nature blossom, because MIYO supplies the garden and plants - regardless of whether they are hedges, perennials, raised beds or lawns - with water fully automatically and as needed.
]]>As global water consumption has increased tenfold over the last 100 years, water shortages and unequal distribution of drinking water are ever-present issues. Therefore, in 1993, UNESCO established the world water day was launched - with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of water for us humans. Because water is a valuable resource that should be used responsibly.
Currently, many automatic irrigation systems are programmed regardless of the weather. This means that they always water at fixed times and unfortunately regardless of whether it is raining or the sun is shining. In addition, garden irrigation controls traditionally only know two measures: water, or no water. This means that garden watering cannot be stopped in places where no water is needed or you can no longer water where plants actually need more water.
It is precisely with these problems that it comes into play MIYO at. With its highly developed sensors, the smart irrigation system can precisely measure the moisture in the soil and therefore knows exactly whether and in which areas of the garden more water is needed. This means the system can pour out the perfect amount of water and use this vital resource for us as efficiently as possible. So that MIYO only irrigates when it is necessary, a sophisticated sensor control is used. In contrast to the time-controlled competition, the MIYO system does not simply skip irrigation times: In addition to soil moisture, the condition of the soil and the weather forecast also influence the duration of irrigation. The irrigation itself is also started based on these measured values and not when the time dictates. So garden irrigation and saving water don't have to be a contradiction.
“On the one hand, our MIYO reduces water consumption and, on the other hand, you can defend yourself against the battery madness by using solar power. In Austria it is estimated that half a million batteries are used every year in electronics for gardens. That results in well over 100 kilograms of CO2 equivalent,” explains the management. In addition to batteries, MIYO also does without wiring thanks to the radio connection. In contrast to many other smart irrigation systems, the entire garden does not need to be connected to WLAN for ongoing operation. Internet access is only required for installation. MIYO also offers its owners the opportunity to access the smart irrigation system worldwide via a cloud connection. And hobby meteorologists also get their money's worth, because with the extensive statistics function of the MIYO app, all values of the ground sensor can be graphically displayed and evaluated in a progression diagram. In this respect, too, MIYO is ahead of the competition.
It's been official since the beginning of March: After the long waiting period of almost 18 months, two patent applications were approved by the German Patent and Trademark Office. The MIYO system is thus officially a technological pioneer in the smart garden sector and can shine with the most sophisticated inventions for intelligent irrigation.
The technology currently used in MIYO is the only one of its kind. To put it simply, MIYO controls several areas fully automatically in a row with one supply line (a water tap). The newly patented pipe system has its own valve for each of these flow paths, which can be blocked or released to keep the water pressure stable. MIYO decides independently about this safety circuit and staggers the valve opening fully automatically.
The second, approved and already published patent will be reflected in the next generation of products from MIYO. We listened carefully to our customers and realized the following: Our current sensor protrudes from the ground, which is very good for beds of all kinds, but not so good for the lawn, as you cannot mow unrestrictedly there. This requirement will be met in the future with a new, floor-flush sensor. Its solar surface will be perfectly flush with the turf thanks to an incline of only 5 to 10 degrees, giving the lawnmower a free path and still cleaning itself, since the water can drain away optimally.
