Finally, it is possible – to have only one Sensor in a garden area. No automatic irrigation, but only monitoring. Thanks to the latest integrations, MIYO can now also be controlled via Loxone and Google Home. This makes gardening easier for millions of users and is another step towards climate protection thanks to sensible resource use.
New Smart Garden Feature
The intelligent Smart Garden innovation MIYO is known to supply green spaces fully automatically, environmentally friendly, and according to demand. To maintain full control over soil moisture even with raised beds and container plants, there is now a new feature that allows only Sensors to be connected with the MIYO app and the corresponding data to be determined. This way, you always know exactly when the soil is dry there as well. This allows manual watering without unnecessarily consuming the valuable resource water.
From now on, MIYO offers four combination options and functions. The Cube always acts as the central interface, the "brain" of the MIYO garden irrigation system:
- One Sensor measures data such as soil moisture, temperature, and brightness and forwards it to the Valve for fully automatic irrigation.
- One Sensor measures the relevant data and multiple Valves control the demand-based irrigation of several water lines and garden areas.
- Only one Valve (without Sensor) can be controlled and remotely operated with the MIYO app.
- Only one energy-autonomous Sensor transmits its measurement data to the MIYO app. The irrigation of the respective plants and areas is then done manually depending on demand or soil moisture status.
The MIYO Plugin for LOXONE
In our homes and gardens, an average of 150 devices for building technology and consumer electronics are controlled nowadays. None of these devices really knows what the others are doing or what the resident wants at the moment.
With Loxone Smart Home, however, everything is controlled by a central core, a small miniserver. The system behind Loxone handles most tasks around security, comfort, and energy efficiency on its own and has done so millions of times for many years. A MIYO fan and tech-savvy customer has programmed a plugin for easy operation and integration with Loxone and made it available as open source for all MIYO owners. A detailed installation guide is also available online here. The plugin programmed and extensively documented by our customer establishes a WebSocket interface to the MIYO Cube and sends the messages received via this interface in a format easily processed by Loxone to the Loxone miniserver. These messages arriving at the miniserver via UDP (minimal, connectionless network protocols) for the MIYO irrigation system are received by the plugin and forwarded again via WebSocket to the Cube.
Thus, not only can data from the MIYO system (such as temperature or soil moisture, or the status of the Valves) be visualized or further processed in Loxone, but the irrigation Valves can also be controlled through custom logics within Loxone.
MIYO conquers Google Home
It is mainly due to the explicit wishes of our customers that MIYO or the irrigation can now also be turned on and off via the voice control assistant Google Home. Once activated by saying "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," you can transmit a corresponding command to the assistant with your voice. We want to make life even easier for our customers and their smart homes even more efficient.
