On March 22, we celebrate World Water Day to raise awareness of the importance of water as a basis of life for humanity. In addition, the smart irrigation system MIYO has another major success to announce!
Due to the worldwide water consumption, which has increased tenfold in the last 100 years, water scarcity and unequal distribution of drinking water are omnipresent issues. Therefore, UNESCO established World Water Day in 1993 – with the goal of drawing attention to the importance of water for us humans. Because water is a valuable resource that should be used responsibly.
MIYO irrigates sustainably and resource-conserving
Currently, many automatic irrigation systems are programmed independently of the weather. This means they always irrigate at fixed predetermined times and do not adapt to changing weather. Evaporation and thus water demand vary greatly with temperature, sunlight or cloud cover, wind, and other influencing factors. Irrigation can be omitted during heavy rain.
Exactly these problems are addressed by MIYO. With its precise Sensor, the smart irrigation system can measure the moisture in the soil and therefore knows exactly whether and in which areas of the garden irrigation is necessary. This allows the valuable resource water to be used as efficiently as possible.
"Our MIYO thus reduces water consumption on the one hand, and on the other hand, with power supply through solar charging, one can resist the battery madness. In Austria, it is estimated that half a million batteries are used annually just in garden electronics. This results in well over 100 kilograms of CO2 equivalent," explains the management. In addition to batteries, MIYO also dispenses with wiring thanks to wireless connection. Unlike many other smart irrigation systems, no networking of the entire garden with WLAN is necessary for ongoing operation. Only an internet connection is required for installation. Furthermore, MIYO offers its owners the possibility to access the smart irrigation system worldwide via cloud connection. Hobby meteorologists also get their money's worth, because with the extensive statistics function of the MIYO app, all values of the soil Sensor can be graphically displayed and evaluated in a trend diagram. In this respect, MIYO is also ahead of the competition.
Patent office confirms: MIYO is a technological pioneer in the field of Smart Garden
Since early March, it is official: After a long waiting period of almost 18 months, two patent applications were approved by the German Patent and Trademark Office. The MIYO system is thus officially a technological pioneer in the field of Smart Garden and can shine with the most sophisticated inventions for intelligent irrigation.
The technology already used in MIYO is unique. Simply explained, MIYO controls several areas fully automatically in sequence with one supply line (a water tap). The newly patented piping system has a separate Valve for each of these flow paths, which can be closed or opened to keep the water pressure stable. MIYO independently decides on this safety circuit and stages the Valve opening fully automatically.
The second approved and already published patent will be found in the next product generation of MIYO. We have listened carefully to our customers and recognized the following: Our current Sensor protrudes from the ground, which is very suitable for all kinds of beds but less so for lawns, as mowing is not unrestricted there. This requirement will be met in the future with a new, flush-mounted Sensor. Its solar surface will perfectly align with the turf due to a slight tilt of only 5 to 10 degrees, allowing the lawn mower free passage and still cleaning itself, as water can drain optimally.
