The temperatures are getting colder and the garden is going into winter dormancy. It is also time for MIYO, the smart and fully automatic irrigation system, to think about hibernation. We have summarized what to pay attention to.
Plant lovers take final overwintering measures in late autumn, bring their green companions indoors, wrap pots, and take important precautions to avoid frost damage. To safely get MIYO through the cold season, all mobile devices, i.e., Sensors and Valves, must be removed and stored indoors once the outside temperature drops to 4°C. Since they no longer receive solar charging, the winter mode must be activated in the app settings for each irrigation zone. This puts the devices into an energy-saving mode that bridges many months without recharging. It is important that the devices go into hibernation fully charged. Charging can be done before or after activating winter mode. As soon as the Sensor measures a temperature of 4°C, the MIYO app automatically sends a warning that it is time to store the devices for winter. At 0°C, an error message additionally indicates that Sensors and Valves must now really be removed.
How do I prepare the winter mode?
Give the devices plenty of sun. At above-freezing temperatures, MIYOs can also be charged in winter mode if this was not previously possible, e.g., due to weather conditions.
How do I deactivate MIYO Sensors before winter?
First, winter mode must be activated in the app for each irrigation zone. Then carefully pull the soil Sensor out of the ground. The soil Sensor should be stored dry and at above-freezing temperatures during the winter months.
How do I deactivate MIYO Valves before winter?
The first step is to turn off the water supply for the garden and dismantle the Valve. Then activate winter mode in the app for each irrigation zone. But be careful, this opens the Valve! The device should then be stored dry and at above-freezing temperatures.
How do I deactivate MIYO Cube before winter?
Once MIYO Valves and Sensors are prepared for winter and all zones are in winter mode, the Cube can simply be disconnected from its power supply. All settings remain locally saved even without power.
After MIYO has sustainably and as needed watered the beloved plants all summer long, the rest period in winter is well deserved. The cold season is also ideal for thinking about individual garden design and developing new ideas for the coming season. We at MIYO are, of course, available in any weather for all questions about fully automatic irrigation and are constantly working on better solutions for a smart garden.
