The intelligent MIYO irrigation helps you sustainably and resource-conserving care for your garden every day. Adjusting the amount of water to the actual needs of your plants saves a lot of water and is healthier for the soil and plants. No overwatering, no leaching of valuable nutrients in the soil. In addition, solar charging saves a lot of batteries. See also our page about optimal irrigation.
But what about sustainability in the development and production of MIYO products? We are happy to tell you about that in this blog post.
MIYO is designed and developed in Austria. Software and hardware development take place at our company headquarters in Vienna on our own infrastructure. For this, we also operate our own development servers in-house. The productive MIYO Cloud runs on Microsoft Azure systems in Europe. This structure offers the advantage of low complexity and thus allows us to partially offset the cost disadvantage due to the high European value creation share.
As energy storage for soil moisture sensors and valves, MIYO uses nickel-metal hydride batteries. These have the disadvantage of a lower energy density compared to lithium-ion batteries. However, they do not contain rare earths or cobalt, which are energy- and water-intensive to extract and are often mined under problematic conditions. Nickel-metal hydride batteries are also much easier to recycle because they contain fewer toxic substances.
In addition to the resource-saving properties of the products, all internal processes and production are also designed to be resource-saving. For example, we pack the products in recyclable cartons and avoid plastic.
This also includes that essential parts of the value creation take place in Europe. For example, the packaging and instructions come from Germany, the housings are produced in Austria. For the electronics, we use components from renowned manufacturers from factories scattered all over the world. The circuit boards come from China. The assembly of the circuit boards takes place in various European countries and partly again in China.
