Spring feelings at MIYO

Frühlingsgefühle bei MIYO

As soon as the first warm rays of sunshine wake nature from its winter sleep, it's also high time to get the garden and balcony ready for spring. The smart irrigation system MIYO is already feeling spring fever and is quickly ready for use again. We explain how:

After an initial assessment in the garden or on the balcony, you have probably already gained a first impression. It's best to start by removing dead branches and loosening the protective mulch layer. Weeding will now be very easy and the mulch can be nicely worked in. However, be careful with any flower bulbs you may have planted in autumn. Afterwards, the soil needs some rest so that the important microorganisms can spread again and increase fertility before you plant anything again.

Also, you should check the beds for frost-damaged plants and gently press the soil around them. It also doesn't hurt to remove the first weeds and snails as early as possible. Here are a few special tips for the different needs of your garden.

Perennial and hedge bed: After removing the withered remains, you can also weed, mulch, and generously prune the perennials here, as they will grow back quickly during the year. By cutting back generously, you can also give the surrounding plants more light and space. Now would also be a good time for replanting.

Raised bed: Your raised bed probably requires a lot of work after the frosty months. If the soil has settled due to decomposition, simply fill the bed with fresh soil. Then loosen the soil with a cultivator and remove old leaves and unwanted weeds. After that, you can fertilize the raised bed, provided this was not already done in autumn. If the bed is to become a cold frame, a cover with black foil or a lid warms the soil. This ensures that the soil is well pre-warmed for sowing, as the cover stores solar heat. In frost-free weather, you can safely sow vegetable varieties such as broccoli, leek, onions, peas, or spinach in spring.

Container plants: Oleander, fuchsia, magnolia, and co. have certainly spent the winter indoors and are already looking forward to the garden or balcony. But before that, you can do them a favor with a rejuvenation cut of the old shoots, check them for pests, and repot them in fresh soil. It is important that you only put your container plants outside during the day at the beginning of the fresh air season and do not expose them immediately and unrestrictedly to the full sun and cool wind. Until the Ice Saints from May 11 to 15, they should only get fresh air during the day and be brought back inside frost-safe for the night. This way, they can develop their full splendor in summer.

Lawn: Don't be scared by the bare appearance in spring, and fungal diseases don't matter to you. Since grasses have their growth point underground, they can sprout healthily again. Cleaning, aerating, and fertilizing the lawn are part of spring care, and mowing will start again soon. How your lawn becomes green and lush and stays that way in summer, we have summarized in a separate blog.

MIYO tip: An initial sowing already ensures beautiful flowers and delicious raw vegetables in the home garden. You can already scatter vegetable seeds in the dug and prepared soil. But pay close attention to the minimum distance between seeds indicated on the packaging and use the best quality potting soil.

MIYO's spring awakening

Now it is time to end the winter mode for Valve and soil sensor. If you followed the steps in the user manual before winter and put your smart irrigation system into winter mode, then MIYO's components should be stored dry and safely at above-freezing temperatures.

How to wake MIYO from winter sleep:

  • First, reconnect the Cube and let it run overnight. We have made some fundamental changes in recent weeks. Every day at midnight, all Cubes affected by the update update fully automatically.
Alternatively, you can also trigger the update manually. To do this, go to the system settings in the app. There you will find the "Update Cube" button in the garden management. Depending on the scope, the update with all safety tests can take up to 10 minutes.
  • After the update (or simply the next day), open the MIYO app and exit winter mode in the settings of the respective area.
  • Place the devices in the sun for at least a whole day to recharge the batteries. A small technical note: to fully recharge the batteries from a low charge state, about 40 hours of sunlight are needed.
  • Once the devices are charged, hold the magnet as during the initial installation and place the devices back in the sun.
  • This ensures that all devices automatically fetch the latest updates from the Cube and update themselves independently.
  • As the last step, you only need to install the devices, connect the irrigation to the Valve, and turn on the water supply for the garden. MIYO is ready for use!

All your settings were stored locally in the Cube even during the winter months without power. Thus, MIYO works again as you set it last year.

Now you can fully enjoy spring and watch nature bloom, because MIYO supplies garden and plants fully automatically – whether hedge, perennial, raised bed, or lawn – fully automatic and demand-oriented with water.

Very satisfied

Bought Miyo for my parents' garden to make gardening easier for them. I wasn't quite sure if my parents would get along with the technology. We then installed and set it up together, and it works wonderfully. The best part is that now 4 people can see the garden on their phones and make necessary adjustments. The irrigation is now running optimally. I really like the system. Bought Miyo for my parents' garden to make gardening easier for them. I wasn't quite sure if my parents would... Clever, thoroughly thought-out system to the very end

Especially with regard to saving water, I think this is a clever idea. This year I also put a second irrigation circuit into operation; our carport roof has a bit too little substrate, so everything used to dry out there. Not anymore now :-) So all in all, my full recommendation! Especially with regard to saving water, I think this is a clever idea. This year I also put a second... Irrigation made really smart

The system is cleverly designed, neatly constructed, perfectly networked, so easy to use and intelligently controllable via the cloud. What more could you want? Trustworthy

Probably one of the most innovative irrigation systems, which can be easily installed and operated by anyone from the water tap. Trouble-free and fast support if something does not work as it should.
