Spring fever at MIYO

As soon as the first warm rays of sun bring nature out of hibernation, it is high time to get your garden and balcony ready for spring. The MIYO smart irrigation system is already feeling springy and is quickly ready for use again. We explain how:

After an initial survey in the garden or on the balcony, you will have surely already got a first impression. The best thing to do is to start removing dead branches and loosening up the protective layer of mud. Weeding will now be very easy and the mulch can be worked in nicely. However, watch out for any bulbs that may have been exposed in autumn. Then the soil needs a little rest so that the important microorganisms can spread again and increase fertility before you plant something again.

You should also check the beds for frozen plants and lightly press the soil around them. It can't hurt to remove the first weeds and slugs as early as possible. Here are a few more special tips for the various requirements of your garden.

Perennial and hedge beds: After you have removed the withered remains, you can also weed, mulch and prune the perennials generously, because they will continue to grow and get bigger over the course of the year. With the help of secateurs you can also give the surrounding plants more light and space. Right now would be a good time to replant.

Raised bed: Your raised bed will definitely scream for work after the frosty months. If the soil has sunk due to decomposition, simply fill the bed with fresh soil. Then loosen the soil with the cultivator and remove old leaves and unwanted weeds. Then you can fertilize the raised bed, provided that it hasn't already happened in autumn. If the bed is to be used as a cold frame, a cover with black foil or a lid warms up the soil. This ensures that the soil is well preheated for sowing, because the cover stores solar heat. If the weather is frost-free, you can safely sow vegetables such as broccoli, leek, onions, peas or spinach in spring.

Potted plants: Oleander, fuchsia, magnolia and Co. have definitely spent the winter indoors and are looking forward to the garden or balcony. But before that you can do something good for them with a rejuvenation cut of the old shoots, check them for pests and repot them in fresh soil. It is important that at the beginning of the fresh air season you only put your potted plants outdoors during the day and not immediately expose them to the blazing sun and cool wind. Until the ice saints from May 11th to 15th, they should only sniff fresh air during the day and be brought in frost-proof for the night. So they can develop their full splendor in summer.

Race: Don't be frightened by the bald appearance in spring and you don't care about fungal infections. Fortunately, since the grasses have their growth point underground, they can sprout again healthily. So that your lawn is green and lush, it is best to do nothing at first and let nature take its course. Of course, you shouldn't neglect the right watering.

viRaTec expert tip: A first sowing ensures beautiful flowers and delicious raw vegetables in the home garden. You can sprinkle vegetable seeds into the dug up and prepared soil now. However, pay close attention to the minimum distance between the seeds indicated on the packaging and use the best quality potting soil.

MIYOS spring awakening

Now it is time to end the winter mode for the valve and floor sensor. If you followed the steps in the operating instructions before the winter and sent your smart irrigation system to winter mode, then MIYO's components should be stored dry and safely at temperatures below zero (up to max. 50 ° C).

Now we want you Tips for activating MIYO give:

  • In the first step, connect the cube again and let it run past midnight. We've made some fundamental changes over the past few weeks. Every day at midnight, all cubes affected by the update update themselves fully automatically.
Alternatively, you can initiate the update manually. To do this, go to the system settings in the app. There you will find the “Update Cube” button in the garden management. Depending on the scope, the update with all security tests can take up to 30 minutes. So please give the cube time.
  • After the update (or simply the next day) open the MIYO app and exit the winter mode in the settings of the respective area. Place the devices in the sun for a few hours to recharge the batteries (but only after exiting winter mode). As soon as they are charged, hold the magnet as you did during the initial installation and put the devices back in the sun.
  • This ensures that all devices automatically get the latest updates from the cube and update themselves independently.
  • The last step is to turn on the water supply for the garden and MIYO is ready for use.

All your settings were always saved locally in the cube during the winter months, even without a power supply. MIYO works again as you set it up last year.

Now you can enjoy spring to the fullest and watch nature bloom, because MIYO supplies the garden and plants fully automatically - regardless of whether hedge, perennial raised bed or lawn - fully automatically and as needed with water.
