As soon as the first warm rays of sunshine bring nature out of hibernation, it is also high time to make the garden and balcony fit for spring. The MIYO smart irrigation system also has spring fever and is quickly ready for use again. We explain how:
After a first survey in the garden or on the balcony, you have probably already gained a first impression. It is best to start by removing dead branches and loosening the protective mulch layer. Weeding will be easy now and the mulch can be worked in nicely. However, take care of the bulbs you may have already set out in autumn. Afterwards, the soil needs some rest so that the important microorganisms can spread again and increase fertility before you plant anything again.
You should also check the beds for frozen plants and lightly press the soil around them. It also doesn't hurt to remove the first weeds and slugs as early as possible. Here are some special tips for the different requirements of your garden.
Shrub and hedge bed: After you have removed the withered remains, you can also weed, mulch and generously prune the shrubs here, because they will continue to grow and become larger in the course of the year. With the help of pruning shears, you can also give the surrounding plants more light and space. Now would also be a good time to replant.
Raised bed: Your raised bed will certainly be crying out for work after the frosty months. If the soil has sunk due to decomposition, simply fill the bed with fresh soil. Then loosen the soil with a cultivator and remove old leaves and unwanted weeds. You can then fertilise the raised bed, if this has not already been done in autumn. If the bed is to be a cold frame, cover it with black foil or a lid to warm up the soil. This ensures that the soil is well pre-warmed for sowing, because the cover stores solar heat. If the weather is frost-free, you can sow vegetables such as broccoli, leeks, onions, peas or spinach without hesitation in spring.
Potted plants: Oleander, fuchsia, magnolia and co. have certainly spent the winter indoors and are already looking forward to the garden or balcony. But before that you can do them some good with a rejuvenating pruning of the old shoots, check them for pests and repot them in fresh soil. It is important that at the beginning of the fresh air season you only put your potted plants outside during the day and do not expose them to the blazing sun and the cool wind. Until the Ice Saints from 11 to 15 May, they should only get a breath of fresh air during the day and be brought back inside frost-proof for the night. This way they can develop their full splendour in summer.
Lawn: Don't let the bare appearance in spring frighten you, and you can also be indifferent to fungal diseases. Fortunately, the grasses have their growing point underground, so they can sprout again in good health. To make your lawn green and lush, it is best to do nothing at first and let nature take its course. Of course, you should still not neglect proper watering.
MIYO expert tip: A first sowing already now provides beautiful flowers and delicious raw vegetables in the home garden. You can already sow vegetable seeds in the dug up and prepared soil. However, pay close attention to the minimum distance between the seeds indicated on the packaging and use potting soil of the best quality.
MIYOS Spring Awakening
Now is the time to end the winter mode for the valve and soil sensor. If you followed the steps in the manual before winter and put your smart irrigation system into winter mode, MIYO's components should be dry and safely stored at plus temperatures.
Now we want to give you tips on how to activate MIYO:
- Now, as a first step, reconnect the Cube and let it run over midnight. We have made some basic changes in the past weeks. Every day at midnight, all cubes affected by the update update themselves fully automatically.
Alternatively, you can trigger the update manually. To do so, go to the system settings in the app. There you will find the button "Update Cube" in the garden management. Depending on the scope, the update with all security tests can take up to 30 minutes. So please give the Cube time. - After the update (or simply the next day), open the MIYO app and exit the winter mode in the settings of the respective area.
- Put the devices in the sun for at least a whole day to recharge the batteries. A short technical excursion: it takes about 40 hours of sunshine to fully recharge the batteries from a low state of charge.
- Once the devices are charged, stop the magnet as you did during the initial installation and place the devices back in the sun.
- This ensures that all devices automatically get the latest updates from the Cube and update themselves automatically.
- The last step is to install the equipment, connect the irrigation to the valve and turn on the water supply to the garden. MIYO is ready for use!
All your settings were always saved locally in the cube during the winter months, even without power supply. MIYO is now working again as you set it last year.
Now you can enjoy spring to the fullest and watch nature blossom, because MIYO supplies your garden and plants - no matter whether hedge, perennial raised bed or lawn - fully automatically and as needed with water.
