MIYO Cube and Wi-Fi

The MIYO Cube has an Ethernet port (LAN) and no integrated Wi-Fi. If there is no network socket where you want to install it, you can connect the Cube to the available Wi-Fi via a small travel router.

What you need

  • MIYO Cube with power supply
  • TP-Link TL-MR3020
  • Network cable (Ethernet)
  • Existing Wi-Fi with Internet access

How the connection works

Travel routers with Bridge or Repeater mode are available from various manufacturers. The device connects to your home Wi-Fi and passes the same network on through its Ethernet port. The Cube remains a LAN-only device and is part of your home network. Weather data, app control, and remote access then work just as they would with a direct LAN connection.

These instructions show how to set up the TP-Link TL-MR3020. If you are using another device with a comparable Bridge mode, proceed in the same way.

Position the TL-MR3020 so that it reliably receives your home Wi-Fi. The Cube itself should still be positioned as centrally as possible in relation to the garden (wireless connection to sensors and valves, see Wireless).

Setup

Switch on the TL-MR3020 and set the operating mode switch to AP.

The TL-MR3020 broadcasts its own configuration Wi-Fi network. Connect your computer or smartphone to this Wi-Fi network. The SSID and password are shown on the rating plate. In your browser, open the address of the IPv4 default gateway - for the TL-MR3020, this is usually 192.168.1.1 - and log in. You can find the login details on the rating plate or in the quick-start guide. You can view the default gateway in the details of the connected Wi-Fi connection (Windows: adapter details; Android and iOS: Wi-Fi information page). Start Quick Setup.

Select your time zone and click Next.

2. Set Operation Mode to Repeater/Bridge Mode

Select Repeater/Bridge Mode and click Next.

3. Specify your own Wi-Fi network

Leave Connect to 2.4GHz Network enabled. Under Host 2.4GHz SSID, enter your Wi-Fi SSID or search for it using Scan. Enter the password. The scan usually detects the security, version, and encryption settings; otherwise, leave WPA/WPA2 Personal, WPA2-PSK, and AES selected. Click Next.

4. TP-Link Wi-Fi

Turn Enable Wireless Radio on or off depending on whether the TL-MR3020 should continue broadcasting Wi-Fi. If this option is disabled, it will work only as a bridge and can then be accessed only via the LAN cable. Click Next to complete Quick Setup.

Connect the Cube

Then connect the Cube to the TL-MR3020 via LAN:

  1. Connect the Cube to the power supply
  2. Connect the Cube to the LAN port of the TL-MR3020 using an Ethernet cable
  3. Wait until all 3 LEDs on the Cube are lit
  4. Set up the Cube as usual in the MIYO app (see Initial setup)
