Wireless (Cube series)
Sensors and Valves in the Cube series communicate wirelessly via radio with the MIYO Cube. This page describes the frequency, range, and what to consider when positioning the devices. For the LoRaWAN series with greater range and its own radio technology, see the LoRaWAN section.
Frequency and approval

- No separate approval is required (operation in the designated band).
- Compared with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, this band typically offers greater range and better penetration through walls and vegetation.
Which band your system uses depends on the region and device version (the garden location in the app).
Range

The actual range depends heavily on obstacles, materials, and positioning—the figures are guidelines, not a guarantee for every installation.
Propagation and obstacles
Radio signals propagate in a straight line: ideally along a route that is as unobstructed as possible from the Cube antenna to the device antenna (behind the solar panel of the Sensor or Valve).
- Strong attenuation: metal, concrete, thick reinforced-concrete walls, metal housings, or shielding
- Less attenuation: brick walls, wooden walls, and normal garden vegetation
The more solid obstacles there are along the route, the shorter the reliable connection. Position the Cube as centrally as possible with a clear radio path to the garden; do not unnecessarily hide devices behind metal boxes or deep inside masonry recesses.
Radio channel
In addition to the distance itself, the selected radio channel plays a role:
- The best channel selection depends on the exact position of the Cube and devices, as well as the local radio environment (for example, other systems in the same band or interference at the installation location).
- In the EU band, the channel around 868.3 MHz has often proven suitable in practice—it is a sensible starting point, but it may not be optimal everywhere.
- If you experience connection problems, check or change the channel in the app and improve the positioning (clear antenna path, less metal/concrete along the route).
