MIYO and LoRaWAN networks

The MIYO LoRaWAN devices can be used in various ways. The MIYO app provides control of the MIYO LoRaWAN sensors and valves. Currently, the MIYO app supports the MIYO LoRaWAN network and The Things Network. The MIYO app already includes the most important features for using LoRaWAN devices, and these features are continuously being expanded.

In any case, we recommend using your own LoRaWAN gateway. You can register it with us through the MIYO app to use the MIYO LoRaWAN network.

For professionals: Alternatively, our LoRaWAN devices can also be used with your own implementations, provided that you have your own LoRaWAN network. We provide the required LoRa parameters and protocol information for controlling the devices. The MIYO app cannot be used with a standalone setup.

MIYO recommendation:

  • Use the MIYO app and the MIYO LoRaWAN network
  • Install your own gateway (e.g., Seeed SenseCAP M2)

MIYO LoRaWAN network

We recommend using the MIYO LoRaWAN devices in conjunction with our own LoRaWAN network. This currently offers the best device support and enables us to provide the best support. We can also update the devices via over-the-air updates when necessary.

The MIYO network is selected when adding a device through the app. All LoRa configurations are performed automatically in the background.

In most cases, however, using the MIYO network requires your own LoRaWAN gateway. This can be connected to our network quickly and easily.

Set up the gateway

The gateway must be configured as a Packet Forwarder. The settings are:

  • Server Address: my.miyo.garden
  • Server Port (Up): 1700
  • Server Port (Down): 1700

Configure Seeed SenseCAP M2 for the MIYO network

The gateway must then be registered in the app. This setting can be found under Garden settings -> LoRa Gateways.

Register the gateway in the app

The Things Network

As an alternative to the MIYO network, we also offer basic support through The Things Network (TTN). The advantage is that you may not need your own gateway if your devices are located in an area with high coverage from public TTN gateways. Unfortunately, we do not support over-the-air updates through TTN, and our support options are limited. In addition, The Things Network Fair Use Policy must be taken into account, as it significantly limits the number of messages sent to and from devices.

The TTN network is selected when adding a device through the app. All LoRa configurations are performed automatically in the background.

All publicly accessible TTN gateways can be used automatically through The Things Network. Alternatively, you can register your own gateway with the public TTN. The MIYO devices automatically find their way to our app.

Set up the gateway

For TTN, the gateway must be configured as a Packet Forwarder. The settings are:

  • Server Address: eu1.cloud.thethings.network
  • Server Port (Up): 1700
  • Server Port (Down): 1700

For more detailed information about configuring and setting up The Things Network, we recommend consulting the current TTN documentation.

Notes

  • If you are already using your own gateway, we recommend using it with the MIYO network.
  • If you use your own gateway through The Things Network and use the MIYO app, the devices must not also be configured in your own TTN account. MIYO will continue to manage the device configuration, unless TTN is used as a standalone solution without the MIYO app and with your own device management.

Self-hosted network/other providers

If you want to use your own network or a network provider other than those listed, this is also possible. The device data sheets contain the necessary information for connecting the devices, as well as the message formats used for transmissions and the interfaces for controlling them. However, the MIYO app cannot be used in this setup.
