Commissioning
This guide describes the typical setup of a MIYO Cube system (starter set or Cube + Sensor + Valve).
What you need
- MIYO app (iOS / Android; a demo mode is available for trying out the features)
- Cube with LAN connection and Internet access
- Sensor and/or Valve(s)
- Water connection and garden hose with a suitable connection (quick coupling or 3/4" thread, depending on the Valve)
- Optional: Water filter upstream of the Valve
1. Install the app
Download the MIYO app from the App Store or Google Play Store and create an account. In Demo mode, you can explore features such as garden setup, weather, device management, and manual watering without obligation.
2. Connect the Cube and create a garden
- Connect the Cube to power and LAN. After a short time, all 3 LEDs on the Cube should light up.
- Press the white Pairing button on the Cube.
- Create a new garden in the app, scan the QR code on the underside of the Cube, and follow the setup wizard.
- Create a garden and set its location (important, among other things, for weather forecasts, evapotranspiration, and permitted radio frequencies) and name.
- In the following steps, you will be guided through configuring your first irrigation circuit.

3. Install the Sensor
- Hold the magnet against the upper part of the Sensor’s right side for 2–3 seconds until the LED on the device starts flashing.
- Search for the Sensor in the desired irrigation area in the app.
- Position the Sensor so that the solar cell receives sufficient light.
- Insert the measuring probe in the root zone of the representative plants—typically at a depth of approximately 10 cm.

4. Install the Valve
- Hold the magnet against the upper part of the Valve’s right side for 2–3 seconds until the LED on the device starts flashing.
- Search for the Valve in the desired irrigation area in the app.
- Install the Valve at the water connection (quick coupling or 3/4" thread, depending on the model).
- Connect the outlet to a sprinkler, drip hose, pop-up sprinkler, or other system.
- Position the Valve so that the solar cell receives sufficient light.
Tip: A filter upstream of the Valve protects against particles and extends its service life.

5. Configure irrigation zones
In the app:
- Assign the Sensor and Valve(s) to a zone / irrigation area
- Set the soil and plant type or desired moisture parameters
- Select the irrigation mode (manual, time window, MIYO mode—see App and Irrigation)
- Check the maximum watering times and protection rules (e.g., in case of a rain forecast)
Radio range and location
- Cube series: approximately 100–200 m outdoors; walls, metal, and dense vegetation can significantly reduce the range.
- Position the Cube as centrally as possible with a clear radio path to the garden.
- Do not operate Sensors and Valves in permanently dark, wet, or extremely shaded areas without sufficient solar energy.
LoRaWAN series (brief overview)
With the LoRaWAN series, the Cube is no longer needed as a local radio hub:
- Choose a LoRaWAN network (MIYO network with your own gateway, The Things Network, or another supported network).
- If necessary, configure the gateway as a packet forwarder and register it in the app.
- Add devices to the app using the QR code—the network registration is largely automatic.
- Set up zones and control irrigation in the app (with LoRaWAN, currently manually or by schedule; the full automation logic of the Cube series will be introduced gradually).
